What exactly is CBD oil?
CBD – short for cannabidiol – is one of the more than 400 components of the cannabis plant. Just like THC, a lot of research has been done into its effect, but much is still unknown. There is strong evidence that it helps with a wide range of complaints, from headaches to stress and from eating problems to chronic joint pain. However, more research is needed to find definitive proof of this.
CBD is the active ingredient in most products you buy Dutch Vitals can buy. The best known product is CBD oil, but many people who don't like the taste of oil also take CBD in the form of edibles or in plaster form. The method of ingestion does not matter in principle for the effect: it reaches the endocannabinoid system via the bloodstream and thus influences many body processes.
Is CBD oil addictive?
We can actually be brief about this: no. There are no known cases of people becoming addicted to CBD oil. And most importantly, several studies have shown that CBD does not have addictive effects. For example, the WHO says: “the evidence from well-controlled studies shows that there is no link between CBD and abuse or problematic use.” This is mainly because CBD, unlike THC, does not cause a euphoric feeling or change in consciousness.
Partly thanks to these findings, and also because CBD is safe to use, CBD is 100% legal in the Netherlands. CBD is also legal in many countries within and outside the European Union, so you can do it take it on the plane without any problems.
Can you become addicted to CBD edibles or capsules?
What applies to CBD oil also applies to other products that contain CBD. Think of edibles, CBD patches and CBD capsules. You cannot become addicted to these CBD products either. As long as the THC percentage remains below the legal maximum of 0,05% (as is the case with all our products), you run no risk of becoming addicted and you can use the product safely.
CBD can help with addictions
In addition to the fact that CBD itself is not addictive, there is also increasing evidence that CBD can help get rid of addictions. Particularly when it comes to substance addiction, the initial results are encouraging.
This study shows, for example, that people addicted to heroin experience fewer cravings after taking CBD, in contrast to people who received a placebo. CBD worked as a kind of ladder for these people, helping them to climb out of the vicious circle. In addition, several studies show that:
- CBD can help reduce withdrawal symptoms, such as stress and anxiety.
- If you are addicted to THC, it can help counteract the negative effects of THC.
- CBD could also be a good alternative for people who smoke a lot of weed (with THC).
- Cravings for nicotine could also decrease.
CBD can help you sleep better
In addition to a positive effect on addictions, there are also strong indications that CBD helps to sleep better. This further improves your (mental) health, which means that those who sleep well are less likely to experience a whole range of problems, ranging from obesity and heart disease to stress, behavioral problems and concentration problems. Stress and mental problems in particular are often a major cause of addiction, so it is not illogical to assume that CBD not only helps with addiction, but also reduces the risk of addiction.
In short: is CBD oil addictive? No, CBD oil is not addictive and safe to use. There are even strong indications that it actually helps combat addiction.
