Our CBD products are composed with the greatest care from 100% natural ingredients. And just like everything that comes from nature, CBD oil therefore not forever sustainable. It is not so much that it becomes harmful in the long run, but the effectiveness of the CBD and other components does decrease. How does that happen, how long can you store CBD oil and what is the best way to do that?
Store your CBD in a cool, dark place
First of all, the golden tip to keep your CBD oil in top condition for as long as possible. Store your CBD in a cool and dark place. A kitchen cupboard or bathroom cupboard is perfect. The ideal temperature is about 15 – 20 °C, or: room temperature. At this temperature, the oil will not clump and will remain perfectly intact. This does not only apply to CBD oil, but to all CBD supplements.
A cool, dark storage place is important, because cannabinoids do not tolerate light and heat well. Under the influence of sunlight and heat, cannabinoids will convert into other substances. For example, CBDA changes into CBD and CBD in turn into CBN. CBN is not a harmful substance, on the contrary, but for optimal functioning it is important that the carefully composed formula remains intact.
By the way, our CBD oils are deliberately delivered in a dark UV-resistant glass bottle. The oil is therefore well protected from light. But if you want to enjoy the oil as long as possible, it is still smart to store it in the dark.
Biggest mistakes when storing CBD oil
- Leave the oil in full sun, as this will cause the cannabinoids to deteriorate most quickly.
- Store CBD oil in the fridge or worse, in the freezer. This will cause the oil to clump, which certainly does not make taking it any easier or more pleasant!
- Do not store your CBD products near children or pets.
Shelf life of CBD oil
You will find the expiration date of the CBD oil on the bottle. This is usually a few years after purchasing the bottle. As mentioned, the CBD oil does not go bad, but due to the adjustments of the molecular structure of the cannabinoids, the effectiveness of the oil will decrease over time.
An opened bottle has a shelf life of approximately 6 to 24 months. If you store the bottle in a cool, dark place and watch out for sunlight and high temperatures, you can easily assume 24 months. Are you less careful with this? Then the effectiveness will start to decrease sooner.
Tip: always shake before use!
Finally, a tip to maximize the effectiveness of your CBD oil: always shake it before use! All substances in CBD oil have their own specific gravity, which means that some will sink to the bottom during storage. By shaking it before use, you ensure that you get all the valuable substances.
